This project was completed for the Applied Remote Sensing Course at Utah State University. In this assignment we explored spectral indices which help to identify land features by analyzing images of the ground and the spectral bands that make them up.
Featured on this page is a Normalized Difference Water Index, created by taking normalized difference between the Blue and Near Infrared bands from a Sentinel-2 image of Lake Superior. Darker blue represents water, and white represents land. Areas surrounding the coast that are appearing a light blue are siltier areas of the lake whose spectral properties more closely imitate that of land. The code also includes a vegetation index, burn scar index, and snow index.
