NDVI Analysis - Trail Mapping
JavaScript
This self-guided project was completed in lieu of a final assessment for the Remote Sensing course at Utah State University. Using National Agricultural Imagery Program high resolution data, NDVI analysis was performed to view changes in vegetation along the trail from 2009 - 2018. The image above shows the 2018 NDVI trail map with the official shapefile map overtop. With high resolution images from similar times of year we can see changes along the trail including widening, the creation of social trails, and vegetation loss. The disturbance image shown below helps show where these changes are most prominent. Areas shown in red had less vegetation in 2018 than 2019, while areas shown in green had more vegetation in 2018. Being able to track these changes using satellite imagery allows managers to monitor the state of the trail remotely, saving time for the staff in hiking to assess trail condition and allowing them to use that time in more important areas.
